Pogosto je obstoj obeh zadušen s težo vsakodnevnih obveznosti in stresa, iskanja samega sebe in sočasnega izpolnjevanja pričakovanj ljudi okoli sebe. Namesto kritik, ponudimo rešitve v obliki učenja o duševnem zdravju, nasilju, družbeni aktivaciji, tehnikah sproščanja in pozitivni komunikaciji. Če zgornje vrstice strnemo; to pravzaprav počnemo s projektom Trialog.

English: Monologue – dialogue – project Trialog
Since June IPES has been implementing a project called Trialog – Activating youth by encouraging them to form meaningful connections, take an active role in their local communities and empowering them for a violence-free life, financed through Norway Grants. The project is implemented by a consortium of partners: Ptuj City Municipality, University of Adult Education Ormož, Center for free time activities Ptuj, Youth Council of Municipality of Ptuj, Avisensa, Institute for psychology, counselling and education, Kamnica, and our Institute as a leading partner. The aim of the project and few snippets from it are presented below by project leader, Tjaša Rupar.
Project aim
Trialog is intented mainly for young people in Podravje region, therefore one of the first steps was researching the literature in the filed of already existing projects, research and similar platforms. Gathered knowledge was useful when preparing pre-test and focus groups, at which we wished to discover the state of knowledge, stereotypes and standpoints beforehand. We asked about their well-being, response to Covid-19 epidemic, mental health, existence of supportive mechanisms, presence of different types of violence and their opinions on it, as well as their interests to cooperate in activities in local communities. At the very beginning of the project we therefore gained theoretical and practical knowledge about actual challenges young people deal with, which serves as guidelines when implementing further activities.
Activities
One of the current activities are workshops to advance knowledge on violence, stress and personal issues of young people, executed by Adult education centre Ormož. The main goal of the workshops is to offer young people possible solutions when presented with unfavourable circumstances. Main points are positive communication, relaxation techniques, different forms of communicating and empathy. Workshops are meant for secondary school students in Podravje region and are prepared in an interactive way that demands participation from young people. Trialog aims to empower young people regardless of the area in which they deal with challenges. Knowledge of mental health and violence is crucial for recognition of issues and their addressing, therefore Trialog, alongside practical examples and encouragment of activation of young people, also offers terminology to name events, they perhaps were not able to before. Trialog workshops focus on stress and stressors as well, since we cannot avoid those; we can, however, learn, how to deal with them in a healthy way.
Trialog tries to build tools that allow for recognition of violence and demand zero tolerance towards it. Recognizing innappropriate behaviour within ourselves does not only mean a potential challenge of said behaviour, but also allows us to react when we do witness violence. This serves as just one of the examples of three-level working of the project (monologue – dialogue – trialog). Knowledge of mental health allows us to take better care of our overall health, but it also makes us more empathetic towards others – in the context of our loved ones or random strangers. Solidarity and empathy begin at an individual level, but have outstanding societal consequences.
Few of the objectives of Trialog are building a community, local activation and existence of supportive mechanisms. The aim is to empower young people to a point, where they are able to maintain and share their knowledge even after the project is done. One way to achieve this is through Trialog platform, currently in its beta version. After test runs with young people it will be adapted and officially launched in April 2023. Its functions will be presented then, but its overall goal is to create a safe space, full of information and encouragement for social activation, recognition of violence, care for mental health and positive communication. It will be directed towards people looking for help, as well as those, trying to offer it, allowing individuals to connect with people with similar experiences (able to offer some support) and people with completely different lives (showing us a multi-world existence, full of experiences we haven’t had, encouraging us to develop empathy towards other people and their lives).
Project relevance
Thoughts regarding young people having no ideas are false; even further from the truth is that they lack interests. Often the existence of both is suffocated via daily obligations and stress, searching for oneself and one’s identity as well as managing expectations of adults around them. During our work on the project we have met with many young people that feel like their opinions are irrelevant, that they are not taken seriously by adults in their lives. Many young people are willing to educate themselves and activate in different fields, they are hungry for informal knowledge and full of innovative ideas, sometimes presented in surprisingly articulate ways. We need to listen to them, believe them and offer them alternatives. Passiveness can be a sign of disinterest, but it can also be a sign of monotony, loneliness, feeling misunderstood and invisible. Instead of critics, let’s offer solutions in a form of mental health, violence, social activation, relaxation techniques and positive communication. If we sum up; this is exactly what we are doing with project Trialog.
